Morning. Here’s what hay did last week, in about three minutes.

$306/ton: the alfalfa-grass blend drops 10.2%

Week of October 26, 2026 · USDA AMS · 100 verified trades · 18 markets

Mix hay gave up more ground than any other hay type this week, which favors you if you're buying the blend, while the national index barely moved at $168/ton, down 0.6 percent. Alfalfa ran the other way to $157/ton, and Good alfalfa rose $5 to $208/ton, which favors sellers of straight alfalfa.

Last week we said watch…
NO REPORT
Agricultural Prices, Friday, October 30. This week's figures carry no state farm-level prices; at auction, alfalfa firmed instead of softening.
NO REPORT
Platte Valley Nebraska near $220. Platte Valley Nebraska posted no report this week, so there's no read on whether it held.
DIDN’T HAPPEN
Alfalfa/Grass Mix at $340. The blend didn't hold. It had the steepest drop of any hay type this week.
What we’re watching this week
1Crop Progress, Monday, November 9. Weekly pasture and range ratings. Poor pasture would pull hay feeding forward and help alfalfa hold this week's firmer tone.
2Dakota, SD after an $11 slip. It brought $218/ton on 62 tons this week vs 127 last week; a fuller run shows whether that was light offering or softening.
3Montana holding $230/ton. It topped this week's highs, up $5, on 50 tons this week vs 1000 last week. Holding there on more tons would back that price.
The Read

The strength sits in straight alfalfa, and the slack is in the blend. Out West, buyers are still reaching: Colorado reports very good demand against moderate supply, and Nevada reports supply sold out, which fits better alfalfa still drawing bids.
